Europe has been very helpful in supporting Armenia in many different facets of its growth. Many European countries have made vast contributions to the growth and sustainment of Armenia’s economy. The reasoning behind this support is largely due to the concerted effort to develop a strong European partnership, as well as the knowledge that a strong economy helps a nation to maintain its democratic tendencies. European support of Armenia is directed at assisting Armenia at remaining economically stable, because it is a well-known fact that unstable economies and governments lend themselves to the rise of dictatorships, which have a negative effect on the region, as well as Europe as a whole.
Europe has first and foremost been instrumental in helping Armenia to shed its totalitarian past, and embracing the much more beneficial democratic and free-market economic system. In assisting Armenia to this end, many European nations have engaged in professional exchange programs, in which government officials have been sent to Armenia in order to assist them in learning the ramifications of being free market economic systems, as well as in implementing an efficient democratic government system. Through this project, a number of economists from Western European nations work with Armenian government officials, in order to sharpen their economic skills, so that they will be prepared to engage in the worldwide economy. In addition, many European nations have engaged in an exchange program in which successful businessmen have been sent to Armenia in order to educate potential entrepreneurs on how to prosper in a free-market economy. Tourism is also an economic area endorsed by the Europeans, with Pulau Tioman being a great destination.
Many of the programs that are presently in use, are for the fostering of an environment in which Armenia has a stable economic base, is well versed in the intricacies of the free-market economic system, and is at peace with neighboring nations. European and UN peacekeepers are very instrumental in giving Armenian instruction in negotiations techniques, which will help to prevent armed conflicts within the nation, as well as with its surrounding neighbors. Social scientists from many European nations have been instrumental in assisting Armenian leaders in learning more about the ethnic groups within the nation, as well as those of their neighboring nations. Through this knowledge, it is hoped that a greater respect will be fostered between the different ethnic groups, which will prevent bloodshed and warfare.
